The Gold Standard Award has been awarded to worthy varieties since 2006. Established by the British Association of Rose Breeders (BARB), it has been independently managed by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (2004 – 2014) and the Royal National Rose Society (2015 onwards).
The trials last for two years and information is gathered from various independent judges throughout the time. Health, flowering, scent and commercial appeal are all considered key factors for judging.

Floribunda Rose

Floribunda Rose
Healthy and reliable, this rose is tolerant of dry conditions and poor soils, flourishing where other roses may struggle. The dark, glossy foliage enhances the creamy pink buds that become beautiful blush apricot blooms. With its light and pleasant fragrance, and eye-catching flowers, this rose is also a favourite in cut displays.
Hybrid Tea Rose
This rose produces huge double flowers with a delicate warm apricot at the centre. The wonderful fruity fragrance perfectly captures the essence of any summer garden. Glossy mid-green leaves highlight the delicate porcelain pink-white outer petals, which makes this rose perfect for cutting and arranging in Wedding displays. Easy to grow, this bushy and attractive rose is sure to enrich any garden. Perfect for planting in patio containers, or similarly used in a mixed rose or shrub border.
Climbing Rose
Large clusters of the bright pink flowers are produced in abundance throughout summer and autumn. The blooms are large and hybrid tea shaped, and moderately scented with a pleasant fragrance. The dark green foliage is healthy, and disease resistant, making this an easy growing rose. A vigorous grower that is more sturdy than some other climbers, making Dancing Queen ideal for covering walls and fences.

The beautiful golden blooms are highly fragranced, and flower repeatedly in flushes throughout the season. The foliage is highly glossy, and has excellent disease resistance. It is strong growing and easily trained, making it ideal for walls, fences and pergolas. It is also tolerant of shady positions, able to bring its sunny flowers to all gardens.

Floribunda Rose
Huge clusters of lilac-pink semi-double blooms repeat flower right through the season, seeming to always be in flower. The delicate lilac-pink flowers are also enhanced by the attractive foliage, thus producing an exemplary plant. A vigorous grower, with brilliant disease resistance, this easy to grow rose would therefore be stunning in a large container or in a border. A delightfully fragranced flower, this rose is also highly attractive to bees and other pollinators, meaning your garden will team with wildlife.
Climbing Rose
If you are looking for that quintessential English climbing rose with large double ruffled flowers, then you’ve found it! From July to September this climbing rose is smothered with large ruffled soft blush/champagne blooms, and fragrant too! Penny Lane is a healthy, glossy and robust rose, and also attractive to bees and butterflies. This modern variety is repeat-flowering with stunning contrasting dark green foliage and is perfect for covering a sunny house or garden wall.
Climbing Rose
Large single pale pink flowers with beautiful exposed stamens repeat flower from June to November. Outstanding hips are also produced, starting in autumn. Reaching about 2m high, it can either be grown as a climber, or pruned annually and grown as a self-supporting shrub rose. Simple Life is a glossy and robust rose, and will easily climb walls and trellises if you let it. The pleasant dusky fragrance will perfume you garden, and has the added bonus of being very attractive to bees and butterflies.
