Alba Maxima Rose

Alba Maxima Rose is an incredible rose with a rich history; one of the oldest of all rose varieties. Adopted as the emblem of the Jacobites in the 1700s, it is also a close relative of The White Rose of York, and can be seen featured in many works of art throughout history. The fully double flowers are produced in clusters, emerging with a slight blush tint and aging to creamy white. Blooming in abundance in one mid-summer flush, the beautiful flowers release a powerful fragrance that will fill the summer air with delight. The grey-tinted foliage typical of Alba roses frames the white flowers beautifully, creating an incredible display.

This hardy rose is tolerant of poorer soils and partial shade, meaning it’s an ideal addition to any garden. Potted Alba Roses

Alba Roses are most known for their important symbolism throughout history. The original Alba Rose is famously known as the White Rose of York, tracing its history back to the 1400s. A close relative, Alba Maxima Rose, was later adopted as the emblem of the Jacobites 1700s.

Alba Roses are very hardy, withstanding partial shade and poor soils, and so ideal additions to any garden. Incredibly healthy and vigorous growers, they have excellent disease resistance, and require little maintenance. They have foliage with an unusual grey-green colour, and when the blooms appear in one large, mid-summer flush, their unrivalled fragrance is released.

How will my potted rose arrive?

Our roses are cut back for the Winter to promote root growth, thus will arrive with short but healthy stems between October and March. Roses in April and May would be expected to have new growth and leaves, and then between May and September buds and blooms. *Please note: These are estimates and can vary due to weather conditions and exact variety of rose.

Your rose will be in a large 5.5L container. This is recyclable and thus can be disposed of accordingly in your home recycling bin.

We take care to be as sustainable as possible here at English Roses, and so avoid single use plastics. Our packaging is therefore fully recyclable, even down to the strapping on our cardboard boxes. Our gift wrapping also contains natural materials, many of which can be repurposed and reused.

Size and Season Information

Rose bushes go through different stages of growth throughout the year. They will look different as they move from their dormant phase in the winter to being in full bloom during the summer. For more information on how a rose will look throughout the year, please see our growth guide.

Our standard container is 5.5L, or there is the option to upgrade to our large willow basket for a patio ready gift! All roses (except bare root) will be securely packaged into our specially designed box, and are delivered via DPD. More information on sizing and delivery can be found in our help guides.

We offer tracked delivery to mainland UK (excluding highlands, islands & Northern Ireland) via DPD. Full tracking is provided on all orders, including updates on estimated delivery time.

Next day delivery is available on orders placed before 12pm midday on weekdays (weekends & 2-day Scotland service excluded). You can also choose your preferred delivery date at checkout, up to 60 days in advance.
