How to revive a bee using your Beevive bee revival kit

Natural ‘refuelling’ is always better than artificial, so if there are flowers nearby place the bee on one so it can gather nectar naturally. If they’re wet, place them in the sun to warm up. Be patient as a bee can take up to half an hour to recover.

Reach for your Beevive bee revival kit when the flower method has not worked, or there are no flowers nearby:

1. Unscrew the keyring to reveal the vial inside
2. Slide out the bottle of bee food syrup
3. Remover the cork stopper by twisting off gently
4. Put a drop of solution next to the bee
5. (optional) Scan the Bee ID QR code on the keyring to help identify your bee species
6. Be happy in the knowledge you have helped save a bee!

This product is not a toy, contains small parts. Must be used with adult supervision. Replace liquid within 12 months of first use, please follow the instructions provided.

Why do we need to help the bees?

Bee populations are in decline due to modern farming methods and loss of habitats such as wildflower meadows. As key pollinators they are a vital constituent of a stable ecosystem. Bees pollinate up to 80% of flowering plants and without them the planet would be in serious trouble. Bees in urban areas often face lengthy flights to the next flower and its reserve of energy supplying nectar. Assisting them on their way is a small but rewarding act of kindness to a species in crisis. Beevive revival kits are handy and easy to carry, so you can always be prepared to help.

How else can we help the bees?

There is lots that we can do to help save the bees, and most are small changes that will make a big difference!

• Native wildflowers provide a diverse source of nectar for bees and other pollinators. You can even get blends of seeds that are specially designed for help bees! See here for our wildflower seedball range, including bee friendly mixes in a range of sizes.
• Choose bee-friendly roses! A garden full of roses in bloom can look like a bee paradise but appearances can be deceptive. Many modern roses have been bred to maximise the number of petals. These ornamental roses prevent the bees accessing the pollen and nectar. The answer? Choose roses with more open flowers that facilitate the bees. Old fashioned roses are often the best choice. • Bee hotels can be bought or made, and provide an excellent nesting site for solitary bees.
• Create a shallow water station with pebbles or stones so that bees have constant access to clean water and can drink without drowning.
• Leave sections of your garden untended so that native plants and wildflowers are able to grow, providing a much needed food source year-round. Ground-nesting bees would also appreciate some patches of bare soil and undisturbed grass margins.
• Avoid using harsh chemicals, pesticides and insecticides in your garden – bees are insects too! Instead, use environmentally friendly methods of feeding and protecting your garden, such as SB Plant Invigorator or English Roses Rose Foliar Feed.
