Bare Root Rose Information
Bare root is a traditional way of buying roses. Available from Nov-March, these young roses are carefully lifted from the ground in the winter months while in their dormant phase. Delivered with no soil, the roots are trimmed and ready for planting this winter. They are in their dormant phase and so have no foliage or flowers, and have short, pruned stems. You will receive you bare root rose in a compact cardboard box with the roots wrapped to ensure they do not dry out. A care sheet, rose variety tag, and any gift wrap or extras selected will also be included in the box. Bare Root Floribunda Roses
Floribunda roses are bush roses and thus ideal for borders and large patio pots. For more information on the different types of roses we offer and therefore what may be most suitable for your garden, see our handy guide.
Bare root roses are in their dormant phase and only available for delivery in the winter months. They have no foliage or flowers, and arrive with short, pruned stems. Delivered without soil, the roots are trimmed and thus ready for planting this winter. For more information on bare root roses, please see our help & advice page.
How will my bare root rose arrive?
Bare root roses are delivered with no soil and exposed roots, as the name suggests. As they are in their dormant phase, they are only available for delivery in the winter months, although you can pre-order outside of this time. They will naturally have no foliage or flowers, and will have short, pruned stems.
Your bare root rose will have its roots gently wrapped in a compostable bag to ensure they do not dry out. This is then securely placed in our recyclable cardboard packaging, along with a care sheet, your rose variety information and any gift wrap and extras you have chosen.
We take care to be as sustainable as possible here at English Roses, and so avoid single use plastics. Our packaging is therefore fully recyclable, even down to the strapping on our cardboard boxes. Our gift wrapping also contains natural materials, many of which can be repurposed and reused.

As spring arrives and the weather warms, roses will be emerging from dormancy and starting to grow. Their stems will have been lightly pruned to encourage new growth, and leaves may start to appear. Roses grow at different rates, depending on variety, age, and weather conditions. Roses still need to be kept outside even if the temperatures fall.
Rose bushes go through different stages of growth throughout the year. They will look different as they move from their dormant phase in the winter to being in full bloom during the summer. For more information on how a rose will look throughout the year, please see our growth guide.
Our standard container is 5.5L, or there is the option to upgrade to our large willow basket for a patio ready gift! All roses (except bare root) will be securely packaged into our specially designed box, and are delivered via DPD. More information on sizing and delivery can be found in our help guides.
Delivery and Contact
We offer tracked delivery to mainland UK (excluding highlands, islands & Northern Ireland) via DPD. Full tracking is provided on all orders, including updates on estimated delivery time.
Next day delivery is available on orders placed before 12pm midday on weekdays (weekends & 2-day Scotland service excluded). You can also choose your preferred delivery date at checkout, up to 60 days in advance.
Free delivery is available on orders £100+ (2-day Scotland service excluded).
